Screen 1 (20 mins)

Set Up:

  • Use cones to create a small court about 10x10 meters with a “net” in the middle (you can use cones, a string, or even a low barrier like poles to simulate the net).
  • Divide the players into 2 teams of 3.

Organisation:

  • Each team must stay on their side of the "net."
  • The ball can only bounce once on each side before it has to be returned (just like in tennis).
  • Players can use any part of their body to keep the ball in play, but no hands or arms allowed!
  • Teams can take a maximum of 3 touches before returning the ball over the net.
  • Each team must pass to at least one teammate before returning the ball.
  • Points are awarded if the opposing team fails to return the ball or it goes out of bounds. First team to 10 points wins!

    Variations to Keep It Fun:

    • One-Touch Round: After 5 minutes, switch to one-touch only. This forces quick decision-making and precise control.
    • Head & Volleys: Allow only headers or volleys to return the ball, adding a challenge for players to time their jumps and movements correctly.
    • Crazy Net: Every 2 minutes, move the net higher or lower (if possible) or change its shape with cones, forcing players to adapt.

Coaching Points:

  • First Touch Control:

    • Emphasize the importance of a good first touch to control the ball and set up the next pass.
    • Encourage soft touches to keep the ball in play and within reach of teammates.
  • Communication:

    • Players should call for the ball and communicate who will take the next touch. This will prevent confusion and build teamwork.
  • Movement:

    • Players need to stay light on their feet and constantly move to cover the court and be ready for the next touch.
    • Encourage players to be proactive, always anticipating the ball’s movement and adjusting their positions accordingly.
  • Decision-Making:

    • Highlight the importance of quick decision-making when choosing whether to pass, control, or return the ball over the net.
    • Encourage players to vary their touches, using heads, feet, and chests depending on the situation.
  • Fun & Competitive Spirit:

    • Keep the energy high and the focus on fun! Encourage competitive spirit while also ensuring the game remains light-hearted and enjoyable.
    • You can add small rewards or punishments (like push-ups or funny tasks) to make it even more engaging.
