- 'Can we try and stop them playing through their DM' - Red Team
- 'Can the far-side CB try and bring the ball into midfield - Blue Team
Targets:
-
Opposition Management (key points)
- Keep the length & width of the shape (in possession)
- Centre-Forward to stretch the pitch long and not drop below the bottom of the semi circle
4 blocks with 1 min interventions in between
Problem 1: The in possession blue team utilise a 4v2 (Blue #1, #4, #5, #6 vs Red #9 & #10) and repeatedly play through the Blue #6
Solution 1: The Red Team nearside striker will press the centre back on the ball while the far side striker will shadow mark & block the pass into the opposition #6
Problem 2: The #9 & #10 Red players keep getting beat in the press and as the Blue #6 starts higher and offers a wider passing angle, meaning he cannot be shadow marked
Solution 2: When the Blue #6 gets on the ball after receiving behind the opposition front line, the nearest midfielder in the midfield 4 unit needs to put pressure on the blue #6, while the other 3 midfielders shuffle to stop the central passing options and force play away from the centre

When setup to defend from the front:
The Blues organise into a 2 CBs in line with 6 yard box with the GK in the centre of the goal on the ball, #6 on the edge of the box, the midfield 2 starting flat which each other and the centre-forward starting high (instructions for the centre forward will be to start high and can drop but not below the bottom of the semi circle)
Red Team:
- #9 & #10 will stand north side of the blue #6 DM to be ready to press and cut the pass into the DM
- #11 & #7 stand on the outside shoulder in line with the blue #8 & #10
- #6 & #8 to stand on the inside south-side shoulder of the two opposition centre-midfielders to protect the centre
- #4 & 5 to stand south-side of the opposition centre-forward. For the Red team centre-backs, when the ball is in play, the nearside centre needs to mark the centre-forward and stay tight to him while the far side CB covers a step or two behind
Walkthrough of ball going wide:
As the ball is travelling into the full-back, the wide midfielder needs to curve his run to pressure the full-back to deny the forward pass, the near side midfielder centre mid needs to go tight with his player while the other 2 in the midfield unit shuffle over. The near side centre back goes tight with the centre forward while the far side covers, if the centre-forward stays in the middle, the centre backs vice versa
