Description

Trial session where after an initial technical instruction on throw in mechanics, the players, in 2 groups, then make up their own routines - with guidance. In the game they must use the routines they have made.

Throw-in warm up (15 mins)

30x20 area with central box about 6x8.

Outer red players feed the ball for the bluesto volley back. After returning the ball the blues must run back through the central box and out of another window to receive from a different player. Play for 2 mins then swap over.

*on toes to receive

*movement as ball in flight

* selection of surface to use (instep,laces, chest etc)

*cushion the ball back to feeders hands

*feeders to provide plenty height on the feed

Progress by

- feeders do proper throw-ins

- using both sides of foot, and instep

- approaching side on

- use head

- use chest and volley

Finish with stretches and recovery.

Throw in prog (15 mins)

As previous but receiver plays back to feeders feet and then opens an angle for a pass and return.

Receiver then goes back through the windows box as in play out go out.

Drill 1.0 (10 mins)

Set up 2 obstacle courses the same.

Players queue in 2 lines and swap lines after each play.

Next 2 go when previous 2 get through the obstacles.

Coach plays to fastest player to finish, whose reward is a shot at goal.

2nd player plays a 1-2 then goes to set for shot.

Coaching points:

- Strength of pass (short/medium).

- Movement (timing of runs/checking runs).

- Intensity (working 80-85% MHR)

Throw-in routine

Split into 2 groups. Each group to work on 2 throw-in routines:

Group 1 Attacking down the line, defending and switch play

Group 2 Attacking and play away from line, defend and play down the line

Groups will play as the same team in the conditioned game.

For this drill they split into defence and attack, likely 3 defenders plus GK

Each team play same formation, 3-2-3-1.

Normal game except that teams must use the throw in routines they have been working on.

Corners are attacking throw ins.

The throw ins are always from the cones, no matter where the ball goes out.
