The BIG Picture
At the conclusion of this unit, the pupils will be able to perform ways of turning and running with the ball in opposed situations.
WALT
Today we are learning to perform a variety of turns in variable situations.
TIB
Turning allows players to create space quickly, and lose a tightly marked defender.
WILF
ALL - will be able to develop and improve efficiency of movement when turning with the ball.
MOST - will be able to use basic turns and be aware of space to move into.
SOME - will be able to demonstrate and show others how to use turns to create space.

Organisation
Area: 25x25 yards, with six 5x5 yard boxes.
Each player except 4 players have a ball each, the remaining four have a bib and are taggers.
Players to spread out in middle of area, not in boxes.
How to play
Players attempt to score points by turning and running with the ball into boxes.
If the taggers catch a player they move to the outside of the area and perform 5 drag back turns.
Progressions
1. Reduce size of middle area - increasing opportunities to turn.
2. Increase size of boxes - increase opportunities to score points.
3. If defenders win the ball they can score points by running the ball into a box.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organisation
Area: 30x20 yards with four gates, and run off areas as illustrated.
4v4 games if possible, minimum number of players in each team to allow for space to practice.
Different coloured bibs for each team.
How to play
Team in possession aim to score by running with the ball through the gates.
As a directional game the team that scores must leave the ball in the end zone allowing the other team to collect and attack the other way.
Progressions
1. Give each team a numerical advantage for five minutes and see which team socres the mkost goals. Team underloaded can gain two points for each goal.
2. Reduce or increase the size of the area.
3. Run off area becomes an end zone, and if players can run through and turn back out of the area, they gain 3 points.
4. Make the practice multi-directional once a team has scored through one set of goals they can keep the ball and attack the other.

Number of balls used will be dependent on the number of players.
How to play
The players in possession, run with the ball towards a player who doesn't have a ball, before performing a turn and passing to another spare player.
Progressions
1. Give leadership roles to members in the teams to teach each other a turning skill.
