Cushions

Description

No Ball

-Numbers: 1= sprint/cheetah, 2= sidestep/crab, 3= jump for header/kangoroo. On FREEZE, players stop immediately. If players are last to stop or get the number/movement wrong they lose a life (2 lives are given). Add more numbers to make it harder.

Add Ball

-Everyone begins by moving in the area without a ball.

-When coach calls your name you must run towards the coach and cushion the ball thrown to you in the air. Work on the following types of ball control:

A) Inside foot

B) Laces of the foot

C) Sole of the foot to stop the ball still

D) Knee

After ball is cushioned down, pass it back to the coach and keep jogging.

Explain to players how to cushion the ball i.e. take the momentum out of the ball by relaxing the body part you are controlling the ball with. Also position yourself quickly to control the ball.

Progressions

1) Now, players dribble around with a ball of their own, when their name is called they leave their ball at the nearest cone and run to the coach to cushion the ball.

2) This time, if players do not manage to cushion the ball i.e. control the ball before it bounces, then they lose a life!

Popcorn

Organisation

-Players are split into Sweet or Salted Popcorn.

-Players run around the area without a ball.

-Set up 4 Cinema Screens of 4 different colours: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green.

Description

-Coach will either call Salted or Sweet popcorn. If your type of popcorn is called, you must run towards the coach and cushion the ball. Players must then quickly dribble to one of the 4 Cinema screens: before the popcorn monsters (the coaches) try to steal their popcorn.

-Once they dribble the ball (popcorn) into the Cinema, that popcorn is safe!

Note: This exercise requires players to call the coach for the ball. Encourage them to be vocal.

Progression:

Make it a race between Salted vs Sweet. (Give each team a cinema screen) First team to successfully cushion all of their footballs and dribble to their screen wins.
