Midfield to Attacking Third
Stage 2: Small Sided Game
Set-up:
- 40x 40 yard grid
6v6 to a target and 2 small counter goals
1 team plays to small goals while the other team finds target before penetrating endline = 1 point
teams set-up in 4:2 vs. 4:2 or 4:2 vs. 3:2:1
Coaching Points:
- Team shape - Width/Depth
- Central combinations
- CPOA - Change point of attack
- Improvisation (dribbling)
- Speed of play - Find target early ( 1st look forward )
- Transition

Midfield to Attacking Third
Stage 3: Expanded Small sided Game
Objective: Intelligent movement in front and behind to create space to penetrate
Set-up:
- 9v8
- Play Offsides
- Flags positioned on top of the center circle
- Focus on the attacking team
- Teams are set-up is a 2:3:3 vs. 1:4:3:1
- Attacking team attack the big goal while the defending team must dribble over halfway line before they can push a pass thru any of the 3 counter goals = 1 Point
- Award EXTRA Points for splitting passes between FB & CB
Coaching Points:
1. Team Attacking shape (Width/Depth/Support/Mobility)
2. Player combinations (wall passes, dummie movement, take overs, step-ons)
3. Speed of Play (1st look forward)
- 1- 2 touch play
4. Change Point of Attack - Deceptive Passing
5. Strikers look to create chances (dribbling, shooting, heading)
Playing down central channel
- CF can turn and go himself
- CF checks off the front in behind ther mids to receive
- 1-2 combinaton if its on
- Third man play/runs
Flank Play
1. Weakside forward looks to come off the line and make a run to threaten
2. Strong side forward sets full back up short and lays off and receives in behind
3. Ball played into winger - takes touch inside and attacking mid makes overlapping run
4. FB defending tucked in tight - Can winger recieve with a big touch past FB
5. FB cheating toward winger - that's the cue for the winger to make run thru the gap

Midfield To Attacking Third
Warm-up: Long Distance Passing
- Using groups of 3 or 4 players
1. Players play passes using wall pass - Inside of their foot
2. Players play using wall pass but as they combine in the middle - they use the outside of the foot in middle to lay-off
3. Players now play a Bent ball - they pass and follow thier pass to opposite player
4. Players now play Driven Ball - players are using thier laces to strike through the ball
5. Players now use Outsdie of their foot to play the long pass.
Coaching Points:
- Preperation touch out of feet/body
- Eye on the ball
- Hips lined up to to target
- Non kicking foot beside the ball
- Knee over top of ball
- Head-up to see target/ Head down to strike
- Quick footwork onto ball
- Good snap to the knee (it is not a follow through)
- Strike through center of the ball
- Total control of body.
Outside of Foot:
- Come off the middle of the ball
- Spin it/slice it
