WARM UP: FIFA 11 (10 mins)

WARM UP FIFA 11

Progression:

Work in pairs. 2 times through jog back

  • Jog straight thru 
  • Shuffle thru (face one way, face the other)
  • Skipping thru use arms
  • Open Gates, Close gates
  • Jog to first cone shuffle around each other jog forward to next cone
  • Walk pull your knee up
  • Jog to first cone, back peddle back, forward to next cone, backpaddle to closest cone repeat
  • Walk Grab leg pull back pause, kick out (quad)
  • Jog forward to cone, shuffle together , jump up shoulder charge, land on both feet repeat
  • Face your own line backpeddle thru
  • Forward to first cone, backpeddle back then forward thru
  • Side shuffle to first cone, shuffle back, turn sprint forward thru cones
  • Walk hand down extend leg back (hamstrings)
  • Lunges hands on hips add twist
  • Sprint twice thru

Rondo 8v2 (15 mins)

Objective: mental and physical activation game for the training session.

Set-up: 10x10 grid. 10 players.

Instructions:  players play 1 touch keep away.  If the defenders win the ball they drop the vests and transition quickly into the possession.  

Timing:  Play 4 minutes, stretch on their own 2 minutes, play 4 minutes then go into dynamic stretch.

Coaching Points: (1) quality of passes, (2) receiving the ball open across our body, (3) proper passing and receiving, movement to fill in spaces, fast transitions from defending to attacking and from attacking to defending.

Variations:  (1) Make it a competition. Play until a team gets a certain number of passes in a row (ex 10).  Keep score.

Specific (10 mins)

Organisation

  • Half pitch, split into 3 sections.
  • One big goal and to mini goals on the halfway line.
  • 9 blues attacking v 6 reds
  • Balls always start with the attacking team goalkeeper in the big goal
  • 2x4 mins blocks leaving two mins for coaching points.
The session

  • Balls start with the blue team goalkeeper who plays out to one of the centre backs, they have to get 4 passes between them without the red teams striker winning the ball. once they have made 4 passes they transfer it to the middle third breaking the lines with pass into one of the midfielders.
  • Once the ball is in the middle third the midfielders try to transfer the ball into the attacking 3rd to the strikers. They can do this straight away don't need to get a certain amount of passes.
  • When they have broken the line into the final 3rd one of the midfielders can join in and travel into the final 3rd to make a 3v2.
  • The aim is to score into either one of the mini goals.
  • If the red team win the ball they try and score in the big goal. Blue team have to react to prevent this.

Coaching Points

  • Make the pitch big by using the width and depth, making the spaces between the defenders bigger so you can break the lines with a pass.
  • Move the ball quickly but without forces it. Be patient until the chance to pass through the lines is there.
  • Look to play forward when possible, with a good speed of pass.
  • Use the overload and find the free man.
  • Movement off the ball, take up positions where your team mate can find you.
  • Reaction when you lose the ball.

SSG- Finishing Game (25 mins)

Topic: Session Theme

Principles: Carry the session theme into final game

Subprinciples: 

1. transitions

2. defending the breaking line: fast pressure on the ball, protect the ball in the middle, stay narrow and try to block.
Area size: half pitch

Targets: both team must scores in big goals

Players: 18 players, 9v9 both with GP

Time: 20 mins

 

Coaching Points: Coach in the flow if needed, try to let players make the decisions themselves
