OUTLINE/INSTRUCTIONS: Technical passing/receiving around a square. Keep the ball outside the square. Players open up off the cone before receiving, take a soft first touch to control, and pass with the inside of the foot. Nonverbal communication (point to the foot you want the pass on). Second person in line stands inside the square (as shown in the diagram).
SET-UP: Multiple small squares; 5-6 players per square; one ball per group.
COACHING POINTS: Soft ankle first touch, hips open when receiving, accurate inside-foot passing, movement to check away before the ball arrives, early communication.
PROGRESSIONS: Receive with one foot and pass with the other; add a give-and-go around the cone.
BRILLIANT BASICS THAT APPLY: Body orientation, first-touch quality, movement off the ball, communication, and passing technique.

OUTLINE/INSTRUCTIONS: Rondos (4v2; adjust to 3v1, 5v1 if needed). The black team keeps possession inside the square against two defenders. If an attacking player gives the ball away, he/she goes into the middle to defend. Focus on constant movement along the line to create passing angles and escape pressure. Defenders should hold the pinnies to allow for quick changes.
SET-UP: Square grid (10x10 or 12x12 yards); 4v2 (or number variation); 1–2 defenders inside, attackers on the outside.
COACHING POINTS: Create angles with quick movement, scan before receiving, disguise decisions, receive on the back foot, move the ball from high-pressure to low-pressure areas, maintain speed/tempo.
PROGRESSIONS: Attacking players can move into the middle instead of staying on their line.
BRILLIANT BASICS THAT APPLY: Awareness, decision-making, first touch, angle/distance of support, ball circulation.

OUTLINE/INSTRUCTIONS: The coach plays a ball into the middle. Teams earn a point every time they find a target player on the endline (in purple); if they can connect from one target to the opposite target with a switch of play through the middle, they earn 3 points. Target players aren't allowed to play a long ball to each other (must connect at least one pass through the middle). Target players stay active along the endline to create passing angles. Make sure to switch target players.
SET-UP: Two teams working through the middle; one target player on each endline. The coach starts each rep by playing a ball into the central area. The size of the grid is adjusted based on the numbers.
COACHING POINTS: Movement to create separation, passing technique, and recognizing switch opportunities.
PROGRESSIONS: Add a touch restriction for the targets or the players in the middle.
REGRESSIONS: (1) Each team starts with its own ball and works unopposed from one target to the other; (2) Add neutral wingers on the sidelines to create more numerical advantages.

OUTLINE: 6v6 scrimmage to apply session themes in a real-game environment.
INSTRUCTIONS: Play a continuous 6v6 scrimmage.
COACHING POINTS: Stay actively involved by coaching within the flow. Make sure to pick moments to reinforce the theme of the session. Finish with a brief debrief that uses guided questions rather than giving answers.

Arrival Games (10 mins)
OUTLINE: When players arrive at practice, have them play small-sided games (up to 3v3) to engage immediately.
SET-UP: 6 players per field, 2 fields sized 25x15 yards each.
INSTRUCTIONS: Players start free-play 3v3 games upon arrival. The coach should ask guided questions to get the players thinking about the theme of the session.
