1v1 (15 mins)

Organisation

Setup an area appropriate for the players / age / ability.,

Play starts by one player at the end playing the ball to a player in the middle, the defending player cannot engage the receiving player until they have received the ball. Player receiving the ball to be encouraged to use the sole of the foot to receive the ball.

Play for 3 minutes and then rotate the pairs so the target players get a chance to play in the middle.

Learning Objectives

  • Players will develop an understanding of:
  • How to mark a player to help regain the ball.
  • How to work with a teammate to restrict space and options
  • How scanning will help their decision making.

Objective

The aim of the game is to get the ball from one target player to the other.

Every time the attackers work the ball from one end to the other, they gain a point and keep the ball to go back the other way.

At first, players can only play the pass once they've gone past their opponent (to encourage the 1v1)

Progression

make it 2v2 in the middle as players will tire quickly.

Coaching Points

when defending, try to press their opponents to win the ball back.

When 2v2, one player must mark the target player and the other should press their opponents to win the ball back.
