Passing 'Y' with movement and 4 corner SSG
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organisation:
6 players; balls; cones
Objective:
To develop short range passing and movement after passing
Description:
Cone 1 should be about 8 metres from cone 2. Cones 3 and 4 should be about 15 metres away from cone 2.
With the players positioned again in a Y shape, player 1 passes to player 2, who lays the ball off to the side with their first touch. Player 1 continues to move and plays a pass first time into player 3. After doing so, they follow the ball and take up a position at cone 3. Player 3 then dribbles around to the back of the que at cone 1.
The players at cone 2 swap continually so they take turn to lay the ball off.
Swap the players at cone 2 every few minutes so that everyone has the opportunity to practice laying the ball off first time.
Coaching points:
- Weight of pass by all players to their receiver
- Movement at an angle to run onto the ball to pass to the players at cones 3 and 4.
- Accuracy of pass

Organisation:
40 x 30 metre pitch; corner areas marked out (5 x 5 metres); 12 players
Objective:
To develop short passing, ball control and team possession with an active opposition
Description:
Play 6 v 6 with 2 players from each team located in 2 opposite corners of a square area of play. The teams try to keep posession of the ball changing the direction from one corner diagonally to the other.
When a player passes to a player in the corner, that player must control the ball and dribble into the main play area and the player that gave them the ball takes their position in the corner (they swap).
Coaching points:
- Passes should be fast and accurate.
- Body shape of players should always be half-turned, aware of the team mates and the opposition.
- When a player in the corner box eceives the ball, their teammates need to make supported angles runs to the left and right.
- Quick combinations are needed and passes should be made into the player's path.

Passing Y shape (15 mins)
Organisation:
6 players; balls; cones
Objective:
To develop short range passing and controlling the ball on the 'half turn' using the back foot
Description:
Cone 1 should be about 6-8 metres from cone 2. Cones 3 and 4 should be about 10 metres away from cone 2.
With the players positioned in a Y shape, player 1 passes to player 2. Player 2 should be positioned on the 'half turn' ready to open up their body position and control the ball on their back foot. Player 2 (in the above example), should control the ball with their left foot, then pass the ball to player 3 then follow the ball to take up that position. Player 3 then dribbles around to the back of the que at cone 1.
The next player at cone 1 passes to the player at cone 2, whose body shape should be open to pass the ball to the player at cone 4. They follow the ball, and player 4 dribbles the ball around to the back of the que at cone 1.
The pattern continues.
Coaching points:
- Body shape should open
- Control the ball with your back foot and pass the ball with the opposite foot
- Accuracy and weight of pass
