Individualised session for wingers/ wide men. 3 players + 1 defender later
Phase 1
Play always starts by pull back for first time shot.
No matter the outcome player will react and sprint to area of balls as if the shot was blocked and he chased to regain possession. He will then play it in to the retreating full back who supplied the first pass and continue to overlap, ball is slipped down the side and crossed to opposite winger attacking the box.
Phase 2
Again play starts with the first time shot and react to pick another ball up. This time the ball is played out to retreating wide man, (could be a midfielder regaining possession and playing to the winger in this situation) then the wide man will take first touch inside and drive at CBs, opposite wide man will drive inside the second centre half and full back and receive ball to finish first time.
Repeat each phase while rotating players for 5 mins each.
Progress by each phase now consisting of all 3 situations. Play must start with first time finish then combine other 2 in any order. Walk through the transition and movements from each passage of play and keep rotating players. 5 mins
Add in defender in full back area for remaining block, first shot is free again, give wide men decisions to make. Still repeating all 3 sequences and rotating. 5 mins
If the defender wins the ball he can finish in the mini goal on half way, every attacker has to sprint back to half way line last man or man who gave ball away the most does forfeit at the end.
Coaching points
Weight of passes and through balls
Technique off shot depending on pass, 1 or 2 touch?
Communication and timing of pass on overlap
Timing of run in to box
Movement off the ball when defender added, if defender starts cheating getting too tight can the wide man spin in behind and the ball retriever slide ball inside him?
If defender puts good pressure on and wide man is retrieving too wide can other attacker be slipped inside? Impact of opposite wide man? Must get in box earlier if crossing from deeper, good angle as defence may still be coming out from blocked shot.
