Organisation:

  • Coach plays into the area and two players compete to win the ball.
  • The player who wins the ball has to turn and dribble through either corner gate. 
Modify:
  • Put in mini-goals instead of gates.
Attacking Key Points:

  • Soft touches
  • Player with head up
  • Change of speed & direction to create space.
  • Shielding the ball
Defending:
  • 'High to low' & 'Fast to slow' as you approach the ball
  • 'Surfer' pose, side on, bent knees
  • Eyes on the ball

Transition:
  • Quick reaction to winning/losing the ball

Fast break attack

Organisation:

  • First player starts by dribbling into the finishing zone and scoring in the small goal.
  • As soon as they enter the finishing zone, the opponent starts running to score in the opposite goal.
  • As soon as the red player shown shoots, he turns around and runs to try and defend his goal from the blue attacker.
  • The game continues in this wave format.
Attacking Key Points:
  • Big touches to get past defender
  • Player with head up
  • Change of speed & direction to create space.
Defending:
  • Sprint back to defend goal as quick as possible.

Transition:
  • Quick reaction to winning/losing the ball

Box Game

Organisation:

  • 2 players start opposite each other with a ball.
  • 1 player is a catcher and the other is a runner.
  • The catcher tries to catch up with the runner while dribbling their ball.
  • Either player can change direction, they do not have to run in a specific direction. 
  • If the catcher catches the runner they then become the runner.
Modify:
  • Can be played without a ball also.
Attacking Key Points:

  • Soft touches
  • Player with head up
  • Change of speed & direction to create space.
