Meant for teaching defensive players how to press the ball properly.

Meant for teaching offensive players to distribute the ball under pressure.

There is no tackling in this activity.

Organization:

15'X15' Area

Equipment needed:

4 cones, at least 12 players, 1 ball.

Explanation:

Coach plays the ball in to the opposite side.

The ball will be passed counter-clockwise, always be in play and in a diamond shape.

When the coach plays the ball in the player opposite of the player receiving the pass gets on that player quickly with pressure.

The player pressuring gets out to a good distance on their front foot while pressing, (proper body positioning).

The player who receives the pass for this activity passes the ball to the right and goes to the left.

Coaching points:

Attention to detail

Communication cue for "Press" from coaches.

Communication between players.

Progression:

Players can play either direction.

Players recognize to see which side the defender presses on and passes the ball the other way.

If a player presses from one side, the player who is going to press next needs to recognize and get out to press quickly because they'll know where the pass is going next.

Press the man that's opposite to you, play left and go right.

The player that's opposite is going to come to as close as possible to press and shut down.
