When played short, it is vital that the player who took the kick comes back to an onside position. It the defenders on the post are active and stepping out, they will catch you offside otherwise.
Receiving player - plays to the original kick taker, now they can get creative.
Strong side FB and HM shift closer to the center of the park to provide some support to change the Point of Attack. Week side FB comes closer to the center of the park as well.
Attackers who charged into the box now check in to the ball or find some dangerous space in front of goal. A good opportunity to have driven the defender deep on top of their goal, and drop off to create the space.

2 creative players on the ball to play short.
2 players back depending on oppositions striker
Strong side FB starts as shown as well as a HM. Wait for player on the ball to show they are ready, then check in to the ball.
Weakside FB cheats in as shown, not attacking the cross, but looking for a play back or second phase of play(intercept a clearance attempt) Strong side FB and HM also if ball is crossed in, get into position to look for the second ball.
3 attackers set up outside the penalty area to the week side. As the ball is played in, one attacks the near post, one the penalty spot, and the other the far post. Decide before the kick who attacks what, and switch it up every time. Not always the same guys going to the same spot.
