Organisation (Practice Layout & Transition)
The session lay out should be 40 x 40 ( 2 x 15 yard zones for the reds and 1 x 10 yard zone for the defending blue team).
1 ball in play at any time, with a bundle of balls at each end/side of the pitch to promote the quick restart.
Working with the blue defending side, coach the players to cut off passing lines and ensure its difficult to break passing lines. The blue team needs to shuffle in their shape from one side of the zone to the other, each time the ball looks like it should pass through, the blues should squeeze tight to prevent this.
The red team should move the ball quickly and rotate between themselves to create chances to switch the ball. If the switch is successful, the blue team switch focus and defend from the other side.

SSG - Breaking Lines (Defending)
6 V 6 Plus 2 Goalkeepers
Have extra balls ready at the side of the pitch to maximise ball rolling time.
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
To progress this session, make the middle zone that the blue team are defending, wider. This will encourage the defensive unit to shift from side to side more and ensure their spacing is correct.
You can also make the middle zone deeper, which would encourage the defensive side to step in and drop deep depending on where the ball is in regards to the red teams.
A final progression would be to add another player to the red team (if available) to make it easier to pass the ball and make better passing angles. If no additional players are available, remove a blue player and add them to the red team to make this harder to defend.
In terms of regressions, remove a red player and add them to the blue team. In this case to defend with 5 players instead of 4. This will help minimise the spacing for the defensive side and promote the ball being won.
Another regression would be to make the zones smaller. Therefore the red team will have less space to move the ball around and make it harder to brake lines.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
The whole aim of the session is the blue team to maintain spacing and preventing the breaking of lines between the two red teams. Begin as open play, but then limit the red team to 2 touches while they look to switch the play. The defensive team must shuffle from side to side and cut off the gaps, depending on where the ball is.
