1v1 Gate Challenge (5 mins)

Focus: Immeadiate and quick transition from offense to defense of vice versa

Methodology: Progressive technical

Set-up: A 20x30 grid marked off by disc cones. Inside of the grid use tall cones to create gates (2-3 yards) and separate the players into pairs with one ball per pair.

Descrption: Each pair will compete against each other. The goal of the game is to dribble the ball through as many cone gates as possible. Each time a player in possession dribbles though a cone gate they get one point. They cannot however go through the same gate twice in a row. If the other player in their pair steals the ball, that player immeadiately becomes the offensive player and the player who lost the ball becomes the defensive player. Play for one minute rounds and switch pairs midway though the actvity

Coaching Points: Quick transition, attack with speed, vision, constant movement, defending control, deny turn and channel.

2v2v2v2 with Zones

** Please note this was the origional activity planned. However, due to lack of numbers the exercise was changed to what you see in 3v2v2 with Zones **

Focus: Quick transition, attacking, defending

Methodology: Progressive Technical

Set-up: Set up a main grid of 20x30 marked off by disc cones. On the sides of the 20 yard grid mark off two end zones 5 yards deep.

Descrption: Start with team A in the Zone 1, teams B and C in the grid and team D in the Zone 2. Out of the teams inside the grid, the team stays on that passes into the end zone they attack. The team that stays on then defends against the team which received the pass. The team that loses is off and goes to the zone they were defending.

Specifically, in the above example, Team C is defending Zone 1 and is attacking Zone 2; where team D is located. Team B is attacking Zone 1 (where team A is located) and defending Zone 2. Team C has possesion of the ball and scores by completing a pass to Team D located in Zone 2. As soon as Team D gains possession they move as fast as they can to Zone 1 to complete a pass to team A and score a point. At the same time, Team D, after completing the pass, becomes the defensive team and tries to stop Team D from scoring. Meanwhile, Team B takes the place of Team D in Zone 2.

Coaching Points: Quick transition from offense to defense, quick decision making, constant movement, possession and communication
