Description

3 Team Wall Rondos

The aim of the exercise is to create a possession game for the team in possession is to test the passing accuracy and work on the basics  such as passing, movement, awareness, control, long passing through opposition into other teams mates.

The team out of possession is working on their press from the front and mid block organizing themselves to intercept the through pass across. 

 

Set up

  • 3 teams with 5 players each
  • The teams either end will be working together to move the ball from end to end keeping the ball away from the team in the middle

Training Warm up / Dynamic and static stretching

10 mins

Setup:

  • Red to white cones 6 yards
  • White cones spaced 1 yard apart
  • Red to red 15 yards
Coaching points:

  • Jog x2
  • Heels up x2

Method: 2 Team Rondos Press

10 mins

Setup:

  • 20x45 yard grid split into 3 grids 20x15
  • Red grid, free grid, Blue grid
  • 2 Teams with 7 players each 

Coaching Points:

  • Rondos begin with 7v0 in red grid, 7v0 in blue grid
  • On the coaches call the press begins making the grids 5v2, if the pressing team wins the ball they swap out with another pair of teammates, if the same pair are pressing for 30 seconds the coach can make the call to change pressing pair
  • Make sure the grids are occupied both 5v2 not 7v2, 5v0 at any point
  • 1/2 touch, keeping count of interceptions, smaller grids, move grids closer together

Screen 3 (15 mins)

Method: 3 Team Rondo Mid Block, Press 

15 mins

Set up:

  • 20x45 yard grid split into 3 grids 20x15
  • Red grid, Black grid, Blue grid
  • 3 Teams with 5 red, 4 black, 5 blue

 

Coaching Points: 

  • The aim of the session is to create a passing exercise that can be referred to game realistic situations such as (Red Team) playing out from the back against a high press, through the gaps of opposition midfield (Black Team Mid Block) into strikers (Blue Team).
  • 2 players press at a time while 2/3 cut off the transition pass
  • If the team on the end loses possession to the middle team then the teams swap grids and roles in possession or pressing
  • 1/2 touch, limited passes, foot used, Limited height pass, pressing numbers

Method: Defenders Attacking centrally 7v7 

25 mins

 

Set up:

  • Defenders Attacking Red team 1-2-3-1
  • Attackers Defending Blue team 1-0-3-3
  • Using central 3/5s of the pitch for session, cutting off the wider 1/5s to ensure central play
  • 40x60 pitch with 2 goals 
Coaching points:

  • Play out from defenders goalkeeper to maximize the defenders attacking chances
  • Re enforce the idea of defenders creating attacking opportunities
  • Limit touches, passes, scoring lines, 1 touch finish
