Description - 35x25 yard grid. 4v4+3 Reds work with the yellows and have to try keep possession. If blues win possession 3 times, they swap with the reds.
Can either count passes or time how long team keep possession
Progressions
Play directional
a) Yellows passing across grid using reds = 1 point
b) Yellow on outside passing to central yellow, who passes to a red = 2 points
c) Yellow on outside passing to central yellow, who passes across to other yellow
Technical - passing and receiving, movement, dribbling, defending 1v1 and as a unit, angles of support, combination play
Tactical - Early decisions (retain possession or combine with teammates),, reaction to loss of possession (pressure quickly or drop back), when to be patient in build up and retain possession and when to attack with purpose, yellow receiving with open body
Physical - stamina, speed, acceleration, balance, coordination, strength to hold off defenders, agility
Psychological/Social - confidence on the ball, competition, teamwork, decision making, communication
Learning Objectives
Quick passing included limited touches.
Players should be constantly working to create good supporting angles.
Develop forward, side and back passing patterns and support.
Movement of the central midfield neutral to get open.
Defenders should work hard and as a unit to close down space and pressure the football.

Description - Area split into thirds, players divided into 3 groups. i) 2 groups of 5, 1 in each end third, with the 2 players remaining as defenders. The players in the end thirds have to play the ball across the middle third to each other. Playing a ball across successfully earns 1 point. 2 defenders begin in middle third and try to intercept the passes, 1 defender can go into the end third and close down. If defenders win the ball, they play back into middle third to score in one of the goals ii) One player from each end third joins the defenders to create 3 groups of 4. Same rules as first progression, but now blues or reds can drop 2 players into middle third to link up. Example above.
Technical - Passing accuracy, weight of pass, turning to beat defenders
Tactical - Controlling the tempo, patience with the ball to work an opening
Physical - Short bursts of speed to make space to receive ball, or for others
Psychological/Social - Decision of when/where to play the pass, communication between players
Learning Objectives - To work an opening to play the ball forward, if it can't be done quickly, then look after the ball as a team until the opportunity appears
