Topic: General Technical

Warm-up Dynamic (5 minutes)

Fundamentals - Close control dribbling (10 minutes)

Organization:

Players preform dribbling, RWB & turning in the grid.

Carrying - RWB close to you, while gently using your laces to push the ball forward

Dribbling - using the insides, outsides & sole of your foot to manipulate the ball

- Dribble through cones, 1 touch & using both feet

- Dribble through cones, 1 touch, using both feet & sole roll between the cones

- Dribble through cones, double touch in between using both insides of feet between cones

Turning - Change of direction suddenly

- Pull back turn, sole of foot on top up the ball, pull in the direction you'd like to go, while turning your hips

- Outside foot turn, get around the ball, bend your ankle & use the outside of your foot to turn suddenly

- Inside foot turn, use inside of your foot to gently go around cone as close to the cone as possible

Pace changes after turning

Topic: Possession - Rondo 6V2 (10 minutes)

Organization:

16 players involved

Split team into 8 in each side with 2 defenders

Players play 6V2

Encourage players to move constantly to retain possession

If ball goes out, defender closest switches with attacker

If play breaks down or defense wins ball, players switch

Key Factors & Progressions:

Break the lines in-between defenders in possession

Support - angle + distance

Scan before they receive

Receive on back foot

Decision making

Speed of play

Timing of movement - not always playing to feet

Organization:

6' width - 15' length

4 players per area, 1 ball & 5 cones.

Players carry to the gate, preform pullback turn & pass back to start

Shoulder check & move to their right

Receive pass on their back foot across the gate

Dribble thru the figure 8 back to the gate

Pass to start, repeat

Carry with laces

Keep your head up

Ball close to you

Scan before receive

Receive on back foot

Weight of pass

Progression:

Have a thru ball played instead of a cross body touch

Topic: Switching play

Organization:

35 yards by 40 yards

4 squares in each corner

Split players up into even teams

If there's an uneven number - use a neutral player

Teams attempt to switch play, by combination passing from one corner to the next

Key factors & progressions:

Attacking:

Penetration - breaking lines through passing & dribbling

Support - angle + distance

Mobility - timing of movement

Width - stretching the field

Scan before they receive 

Defending:

Pressure - closest defender to the ball

Cover - cover your teammates 

Balance - providing equal or more defenders

compact - protect the middle of the field

composure - focus & restraint 

Cool down - debrief of session - 5 minutes
