Primary Focus - Defending the Lines
Area Size - 30 x 30 split in to 3 sections
Players - 3 teams of 5 players
Times - 5 minute blocks 3 times - Interventions 1 minute each time and swapping each team to have a go at the defending the middle section.
Rules = The ball must be transferred through the middle section without the middle men touching it
The ball must be kept under head height to start
If the ball goes around the middle defenders you get 1 point - if it goes through the middle of them you get 2 points.
Challenge - Stay compact through the middle and do not get split with a pass. Shuffle across the section as a team and communication must be clear and concise so everyone is on the same page.
Progression - Add a defender in to the attacking team section 1 or 3 to apply pressure.
Allow the ball to travel over head height to add some realism. This is worth 1 point.
Regression - Possibly making the square more compact to encourage more success of the defenders roles of defending their lines.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
One Defender is allowed to leave the defending section to go in to the attackers and pressurise their passes.
The rest of the middle section still have to stay compact to defend their lines. Communication is key in this session.

Defending the lines 15 Mins (15 mins)
Each team starts with 5 players in each section of the grid - There are 3 sections that the teams must stay in for the beginning part of the session.
The ball will start in section 1 their aim is to pass the ball within their square and try to find section 3 with their pass.
Once the drill is clearly communicated, work with the defending team only which will be the middle section. Main aim is the stop the defenders getting 'split' with passes from section 1 or 3
Each time the ball is passed through the middle section they will be given one point. This will work on a scoring system like golf where the team with the least amount of points will win.
