Center Zone Dribble & Pass (15 mins)

On a square, have the players in partners spread around the outside of the square. The first player in each group dribbles to the central zone, performs the turning skill demonstrated, and passes the ball back. The Partner now using the receiving technique to collect the ball controls the ball and then repeats the sequence. Make sure you use each of the different turning moves. *Review the passing techniques and receiving techniques.

Skills you can work on:

•Turning; outside chop, inside chop, pull back. Patterns: Zig-Zags

Coaching Points:

•Heal down, toe up, ankle locked foot position (check mark)

•Large surface touches ball

•Footwork to get in line with pass

- First touch with purpose

Pac-man (20 mins)

Round 1: Working in groups of three, the players attempt to pass and move and complete as many passes as posssible within the area. Review passing and moving but now focus is on receiving technique. Address what the thrid person should be doing while other two teammates are passing. Try to ensure players are receiving the ball on the move as opposed to standing still.

Round 2: Give one of the groups a ball each. these players will attempt to get into passing lanes and break up the passes that the groups of three are making. reward players for finding space and working together using communication, verbal and body langugage.

Round 3: have another group defend and this time have the players keep track of their scores. they score a point each time they are able to make a pass to a teammate, but if a defender touches their ball to the team's ball, their score goes back to zero.

Round 4: let a 3rd group defend, and during this round give 1 point for a pass to a teammate, and 10 points for a pass that splits any two of the defenders.

Coaching Points:

•When is it a good time to pass?

•When is it a better time to dribble?

•Where should your first touch go? Towards space/ away from defenders/the direction you want to play your next pass

3v3 Outta Here (20 mins)

Play 3v3 (four gates), but when the ball goes out, a goal is scored, or time goes to long – three new players for each team enter the field. Have the players initiate the game with a pass across to the other team.

•How can you make that pass better?

•Where can you go so that your teammate can pass you the ball?

-did your first touch have a purpose or are you just stopping the ball?

-Where should your first touch go?

If you have enough players you NEED to be doing this activity as 3v3 (there’s a mental abstract thinking aspect to groups of 3 that is pivotal at this age – just as much as the technique we’re teaching)

Scrimmage 7v7 (20 mins)

Facilitate the game and help with positions, positioning, and game format. Facilitate a basic scrimmage with a goalkeeper and five field players. Allow the kids to “PLAY” but give guidance when necessary. Use a “coaching in the game” approach to emphasize the topics from this week’s training. Be sure to use the labeled names for the positions!
