Technical - 5 minutes
2 teams of 5.
Starting point is the purple cone.
This is a sprint race to cones. Players set themselves, and the coach calls out a colour. The players must then sprint through the centre of the cones, go around the outside of the colour called, then race to the finish on the outside of the cones. Coach can call one colour, or multiple colours dependent on players energy levels.

Technical Progression - 10 minutes.
Set up remains the same:
2 teams of 5.
Starting point is the purple cone.
This time, players are running with the ball. Players set themselves, and the coach calls out a colour. The players must then run with the ball through the centre of the cones, go around the outside of the colour called, then run with the ball to the finish on the outside of the cones. At this stage it is not a race, it's about feeling comfortable in their ability to run with the ball and allow them the time required.
Focus is on the mechanics of running with the ball:
- Get ball out of feet.
- Make contact with laces.
- Head up.
- Get into running stride.
- Move quickly.
Progression:- Becomes a race - first team with all five players to finish wins.
- Set time limit to complete.
- Increase distance between cones to make more challenging.
Regression:
- Decrease distance between cones / remove cones.

Ball starts with GK who passes the ball out. Ball is then played to a wide player.
Defenders unable to tackle, can only apply pressure.
The player out wide then runs with the ball.
The aim is to get the ball up field quickly and score a goal.
Again, the focus is on the mechanics of running with the ball.
- Get ball out of feet.
- Make contact with laces.
- Head up.
- Get into running stride.
- Move quickly.
Progressions:
- Defenders can now tackle - to develop decision making - take the player on or pass the ball?
- Time limit from goalkeepers pass to run the ball to the other side of the pitch - 10 seconds.
Regressions:
- Increase time limit to get ball up other end of field, or remove time limit completely.

Skill - 15 minutes.
Wave Game.
Starts as 1v1 game.
Player in possession runs the ball from their end. The aim is for them to get the ball up the field as quickly as possible and score a goal for their team. Focus is on the mechanics of running with the ball:
- Get ball out of feet.
- Make contact with laces.
- Head up.
- Get into running stride.
- Move quickly.
Defender sprints from their side to defend. Their aim is to regain possession, run with the ball and score in the opposite goal to earn a point for their team.
Rotate half way - attackers become defenders, defenders become attackers.
Progressions:
- Progress to 2v1, 2v2, 3v2, 3v3.
- Introduce GK - player from each team becomes goalkeeper. Rotate keepers as this will allow for additional rest periods as the session may be a high intensity session.

SSG.
5v5
Teams set up in diamond formations.
Free play game, however 2 players from each team to hold position out wide when in possession.
Aim of this SSG is for the players to utilise what they've learnt through the whole session and have confidence to run with the ball where possible, and to develop their decision making - take the player on or pass the ball to a team mate in space.
