This is a individualised pattern of play working on wide players (Particularly wingers)
Organisation:
Aim of the session is to work on two pattern of plays as shown above which will work on wide players and creating overloads.
Blocks/Reps:
4 x 4 minutes (2 minute rest)
Pattern 1:
1: The CM passes the ball into the Winger
2: The winger lays the ball into the path of the FB
3: The FB runs invertedly
4: FB lays the ball of to the CM
5: CM passes into W who has stayed wide and high
6: W then trys to dribble into the box through the poles whilst the FB then becomes the defender and trys to prevent this from happening
Coaching Points:
Focus is on the quality of pass from all players but espicially the CM, the winger and FB movement in and out of possesion, Body shape of players when recieving the ball, first touch and determination of winger to get into the box to score a goal or pass.
Organisation - Distances between FB and W to be around 10 yards - Distance between CM and Wide players around 20 yeards. Two poles set up on edge of area and a cut back goal in place for succesful attempts from wide areas.
Patterns 2:
1: W drives into area
2: W passes into path of CM
3: FB makes run into space
4: CM passes into path of FB
5: FB then crosses into goal on 6 yard line
6: If pass is too heavy full back to drive inwards and cut back to score goal
Key Aspects:
Focus is on the movement of the players in relation to the ball, quality of pass and cross, first touch out of feet.
Set up:
Cones laid down to highlight starting points - W and FB around 15 yards distance - distance between CM and Wide players 20 yards - mannequins laid out to aid defensive players as shown in image and two goals one on edge of 6 yard box and one near penalty spot.

This is a team training practice working on creating 2v1 overloads in wide areas
Blocks/Reps: 4 x 5 minutes with 120 sec rest in between sets to speak and discuss ideas. Total time 24 minutes.
Organisation and objectives:
9 v 9 Pitch size box to box roughly 60m length x 40m wide. with a 10 yard shaded area for wide play.
Start: - Ball is played to deep lying red player as a loss of possession. Reds react and get into position to play out from the back.
Session starts - Reds aim to play the ball into wide areas to create overloads to score. If blues win possession then they have to work the ball into the other half to create for them to create 2 v 1 overloads in wide areas (Same as the Reds)
Aim of the session is for the attacking team to work the ball into a wide area to create a 2v1 to attempt to score a goal from a cross from wide or a low cross. Only the attacking team can have two players in wide area. Defensive team can only have one player enter the shaded area.
Key focus is aimed at the movement of the players into wide areas and the position of the wingers so will be working on those individuals as a main aim but working on the team as a whole.
Progressions:
1: Allow 3 attacking players to enter the wide areas
2: Allow 2 defenders to enter the wide areas

Rondo warm up - Overload to Isolate (10 mins)
Session Title, Principle & objective: Overloads & Isolation in wide areas (focus on wide player's) - Sub principle - By creating 2v1 or 3v2 in wide areas
Learning Objectives:
1. Create overloads or isolation (Especially in wide areas)
2. Improve understanding of movement patterns to create overloads or isolation in wide areas
3. Create opportunities to switch play
This is a generic practice - This is a Team Training and Individualised session. This is a Loading Day strength session match day - 4x
.
Area Size: 48 x 24 Blocks/Reps 4 x 3 minute (90 secs rest) Players Required: 16 - 18
Organisation:
Aim of the session is for the team in possession (reds in example) to play 5 passes before being able to transfer ball to opposite target player. To do this the players must create numerical overloads in the area to play the ball through. Once played through all players transfer into new area except opposite target player. If defending team win possession they aim to switch play to opposite target and then roles will be reversed.
Progressions:
1: Touch limit max 3 touches
2: Patterns of play to look at overloads broken down (See picture 2)
3: Small Sided Game (See Picture 3)
Coaching Points:
- Create space for both themselves and their teammate
- Recieve on the half turn and back foot to play forward quickly
- Reserve energy by making clever, late and/or delayed movements to create space and time
- Good link up play & decision making when to pass, when to dribble, when to cross
- Movement and rotation - overlaps and underlaps
- Speed of pass, quick movement of the ball, Isolate and take on in a 1v1 situation
- Variety of crosses - Whipped in, floated, drilled, chipped, inswinging, outswingin
Game Model/Principles of play:
Defensive Transition - React Quickly, Press Immediately or protect on loss of ball
Out of possession - Desire to regain the ball, Prevent split passes between players
Attacking Transition - Switching play to the opposite side
In possession - Quick Switches of play to create wide overloads, Play out to find the spare player
Interventions:
Concurrent, Individual feedback, challenges, direct instruction, terminal feedback, walkthroughs
Four Corners:
Technical - Dribbling, variety of passing, variety of crosses, control in in open body stance
Tactical - Maintain possession, understanding when/where and how to overload, patience in possession to create space, overloads and option to switch play, intelegient movement.
Physical - Acceleration, changes of direction, agility - movement to recieve, speed of play, aerobic and anaerobic work
Psychological - concentration, intelligence and awareness, composure, patience, cleverness to escape defenders, postive play (belief)
