This session is to work on attacking principles for young
players. Its main objective is to have players become aware of support from
behind the ball, width, depth, and mobility, with penetration as the end
result.

SET UP:
In a grid size to fit your needs, play a 4v4 (or more or less depending on numbers) with two neutral players in the 5 yard end zones it both ends of the grid. Coach pass ball into grid and the teams must play at least three passes (or as needed) before an attempt to pass to either neutral player. If a successful pass is made to the end zone a goal is scored. Mix up the restrictions accordingly.
COACHING POINTS:
This SSG can be used for a number of topics but this one is for passing and moving with penetration. Look at all the attacking principles here. Make sure the players are moving after they have passed the ball and the communication is strong and the tempo is rapid.

SET UP:
On 30x40 pitch, play a 4v3+GK. One big goal for defending team, two small cones goals for attacking team. If the defending team can win the ball they can score in small goals which are worth 2 points. Rotate resting players in accordingly.
COACHING POINTS:
This is a numbers up game on attack so look at all the previous activity’s coaching points and apply them where needed. Width here can play a big part so keep an eye out if the game becomes narrow. Encourage forward runs from behind the ball whenever possible.

SET UP:
This passing rotation game can be played with four players or with six. Set up a 20x20 grid. And have players on each corner, but leave one corner free. Each player at cone A has a ball. Player A dribbles around the cone and plays a diagonal pass to B who run’s onto the ball, and dribbles round the free corner. Then he plays a diagonal pass to C who runs onto it and dribbles to A, that starts the rotation over.
COACHING POINTS:
Look up and give a good firm pass into space, receiving player must time run to meet the ball in stride. After pass the run into the next corner must be a full out sprint. Good dribbling round the cone. Receiving player must ask for the ball and a use a cue before making run. This is a good activity to work on communication between players along with all the passing to penetrate principles.
