Warm Up (10 mins)

Organisation

Working in a 20x20 area with a 4x4 area marked out on the inside.

16 players split up into 2 groups of 8.

Half the players on the outside with a ball, half on the inside without.

Activity

Players will go through a passing and control related warm up.

Players on the inside will go out and receive a pass from a player on the outisde then returning back into the square in the middle.

Once players are back into the middle they will then go and receive a pass from another player on the outside.

The players will work for 1 minute then switch with the players on the outside with a 15 seconds recovery before the next group starts.

Players will look at different types of control and passing.

Players will firstly go out and do a bounce pass only using 1 touch alternating each foot each time they go out to receive a pass.

Progressing on players will then check away to an angle receive a pass on the safe side and then control the ball before playing it back.

Trying to create a picture with the players of coming into receive a pass with a "man on" therefor having to control the ball and protect it before then passing it back.

The 2nd progression is for the player to still check off to an angle but this time receiving the ball on the back foot at turning then driving into the middle box with the ball before then playing a pass to someone on the outisde without a ball.

Painting a picture this time that the player has time to turn and drive into the space with the ball before finding a pass.

Final progression will be similar to the 2nd progression only this time after playing a pass to someone on the outdside they will then play a "1-2" and the player on the outside will come into the box and the player on the outside will go out.

Coaching Points

Short shape movments in the middle of the box as if trying to loose your marker.

Head up looking for space and any players available to make/receive a pass.

Communication between players letting them know who wants to receive/make a pass to another player.

Quality of pass (type, weight and accuracy).

Scanning your shoulders as you come out to receive a pass.

Body shape on receiving the ball.

Good first touch.

Developing Technique/ Component 1

Organisation

Working with a group of 16 players.

Players will be split up into groups of 3.

Area will be 20x10 with a 4x4 box in the middle.

1 player will be in the middle box and the other 2 players will be at opposite end respectfully.

Activity

Drill desgined to develop first touch and control.

Player in the middle will work for a period of 1 minute then players will rotate each time.

The player in the middle will receive a pass from one of the players on the outside controlling the ball with the inside of their foot out around one of the cones before then returning a pass back to the player on the outside.

The player will then turn and make their way back into the middle of the box.

They will then look to receive a pass from the other player on the outside this time using their other foot to control the ball and then pass the ball back to the player on the outside.

The player have to make sure they are alternating feet when control the ball in the middle of the box.

Progressions

The player will now use the outside of the foot to then control the ball before then passing back.

The players will then just use 1 ball between the 3 players.

The players will now check to a side and receive the ball on the back foot controlling the ball out around one of the back cones before then passing to the next player.

The middle player will then return to the middle to the box and then check away again and receive a pass from the player on the outside.

The player will then use the outside of the foot to control the ball and turn round one of the cones behind them before passing to the players on the outside.

Coaching Points

Focusing on a good quality of control/first touch

Get the first touch out of feet and in direction of where you are looking to go/play.

Head up, Name, Pass (weight, type & accuracy).

Using outisde of the foot to control get side on and have the body behind the ball.

Checking away before receiving a pass and not standing still in the middle of the box.

Getting side on when controlling the ball on the back foot

Opening up the body/ shoulder so that you can see the pitch.

When using the outside of the foot to turn we a creating the picture of pinning the defender in then spinning.

Looking to take the sting/weight of pass out the ball and to be careful of not allowing it to run away from you. Controlling with one foot then passing with the other.

Compoment 1

Organisation

Players working withing the width of the 18 yard box.

Working with a group of 16 players.

4 defenders 2 Gk's & 10 attackers.

Activity

Players will now go into a game situation starting off with a 4v2.

The game will start with the central midfielder passing the ball into the striker who will control/ hold the ball up before passing it off to one of the supporting midfielders.

Focusing on the control/ hold up play from the striker which was the higlighted individual weakness that was needed to improve on.

The midfield 4 will then go and attack against the 2 defenders into the large goal.

If the defenders win the ball they are looking to pass into the 2 small sided goals.

Progression

1 central midfielder will be added in for the defending team and 1 central midfielder for the attacking team to create a 5v3.

The defending midfielder is to try and screen any passes into the striker.

The will then make the striker work harder in terms of their movement to get on the ball and then choosing the right player to pass to after holding the ball up.

Further progressions would be to add in another defending player and another striker to create 6v4.

Final progression into a game situation of 8v6.

Coaching Points

Looking to use coaching points learned in warm up and developing technique.

Game Related Practice/ Component 2

Organisation

Working in a 40x30 area.

16 players involved and split up into 2 groups of 6 and 4 floating players.

Activity

Game related practiced focused of working on first touch and control.

4 boxes will be placed at the corners of the area - 2 for each team.

2 players from each team will go out into their boxes respectfully leaving 4v4 in the middle.

2 floating players will go into the box to create an overload with the team in possession of the ball.

The other 2 floating players will act as wall players going up and down the line to create an option for a pass making the overload 8v4.

The idea of the game is for the team in possession to move from box to box keeping possession of the ball.

The players on the inside will be limited to 3 touch and the players on the outside will be limited to 2.

The gain a point the team in possession must pass into their respected box and the player in that area must control the ball.

The players will stay in there box for 2 minutes then rotated. Wall players will be the same out for 2 then in for 2.

Progression

Progression will be that once passing the ball into your teams box the player who is in that box first touch must come back into the game.

That player will then come into the game and the player who passed the ball in will then go into the box.

The emphasis will be on the first touch and getting it back into the game and the area in which it goes into.

If the first touch doesnt take the ball back into the game it doesn't count and the opposition get the ball and that player must stay in the box.

If a floating player passes into the box the player will also stay in the box and look to pass back into the game.

Conditioned Game

Organisation

Working in half a pitch across the way.

16 players split into 2 teams of 8.

Reds set up in a 3-3-1 formation. Blue team set up in a 2-4-1 formation.

Activity

Players will go into a conditioned game focusing on the related theme which was first touch/control.

The condition is that players are limited to a maximum of 3 touches.

Also before the team in possession can go and score they must play into striker.

This will allow the striker to work on his movement and hold up play which was identified during my individual analysis as one of the weaknesses we needed to improve.
