THE SESSION:

Start approximately 30-40 yards from the goal. 3 attackers have 5-10 yards head start. Goalkeeper and 1 defender 5 yards from the goal Coach on the side with the balls

Set up: 3 attackers facing one defender and goalkeeper and behind them three defenders ready to come on when the ball is played, simple to begin with we start with the ball in the center attacker and center attacker played the ball other to the left or to the right. So the situation is 3 attackers and 1 defender and the goalkeeper.

Attacker in the center passes left or right or dribbles. Coach shouts 1-2 or 3 to indicate the number of defenders. Attackers attempt to score. Defenders must press, delay and recover.

Coach shouts 1 and 1 defender recovers. 1st Defender near goal applies delayed pressure to the ball carrier. Recovery defender supports. Keeper and 1st defender communicate to recovering defender.

KEY MESSAGES/POINTS: Press, Delay, and Make play predictable-reduce options.

Keeper; positioning to prevent goal, communicate to both defenders.

Recovery defender is able to intercept a pass. Must include a defensive objective. Defenders transition well and score.

Increase challenge; Greater starting distance for attackers. Fewer recovery defenders.

Decrease challenge; require attackers to combine at least twice. Start 1st defender higher.
