Shooting Technical Diff Angles

Drill in action: Search youtube : Aaron Danks: 1v1 and 2v1 Attacking | FA Learning Coaching Session

Part 1: Pass and shoot unopposed

Outside player plays in ball, ball is played back, 1 or 2 touches (can be specified) and shot

Rotate outside player clockwise to change shooting positions

Then inside players become outside

Start with 1 player at a time and as players understand drill a couple of players completing drill at same time.

Part 2: Pass, shoot 1v1

  • As Part 1, but inside player becomes defender when they return ball to create a 1 v1

Key Coaching Points: Shooting

  • Look up and pick your spot for your shot (where is the GK? Shot placement).
  • First touch to take the ball into a shooting position or to hold the ball up.
  • Shot type - power / placed / lobbed / chipped / curled / outside of boot / inside of boot / laces.
  • Early shot before the goalkeeper is set.
  • Follow in shots in case the goalkeeper spills the ball.
  • Unbalance defenders and goalkeeper by using your body movement and fakes.
Organisation
  • Pairs (but can be completed in small groups)

2v1 shoot 

  • Outside player plays in ball, ball is played back
  • Rotate outside players clockwise to change shooting positions
  • Then inside players become outside
  • Start by allowing players to play and then specify that a crossover needs to be added to increase difficulty for defender
  • Goalkeepers can be added
