SSG (20 mins)

Set Up:

Half Pitch - (plus 10 yards if available)

15 Players

2 mini goals

4x4 Min Blocks

Session Explained:

  • RED set up in a 4141 w/out FB/CF
  • BLUE set up in a 352 w/out CB
  • Ball starts with the RED GK, aiming to play out through the CBs and get the ball into the 6.
  • In a game situation the RED team are looking to play through the lines using the 6, and score in the mini goals.
  • BLUE are looking to make it hard for the RED to get the ball into the 6.

Rules:

  • RED scoring in the mini goals
  • BLUE scoring in the goal
  • Team who scores keeps possession

Coaching Points:

  • Movement from the 6 - (pulling into False FB/Sideways/Going far side to create space)
  • Passing angles
  • CB stepping in to create central overload (Block 2)
  • FB's rolling inside to get the ball in the half spaces, playing inverted.
  • FBs high and wide to drop into space to get on the ball
Number 6 aimed points:
  • Dont run down the ball, run across the ball.
  • Always have an open body position (see 3 corners of the pitch)
  • Try to drag the a forward away, so you can use a bounce pass and get the CB stepping in (Block 2)
  • Receiving the ball back foot and playing forward as early as possible

Progression/Regression

1 - Add a safe zone if needed, BLUE 9 cant engage until the ball leaves the 18 yard box, if needed and the RED are struggling to get out.

2 - To speed the game up put a time constraint on possession for BLUE when they win the ball back, 10 seconds to score when winning the ball back.

3 - If RED are keeping the ball too long, they have 5 seconds once the 6 passes the ball to score.

Blocks:

1 - CB's cant step in - have to find the 6 with a pass

2 - CB's can now step in

3 - Add extra detail to the 6 - which positions/movement he can do to improve space, Rhys can go into Josh if it's on

4 - Midfield 3 can rotate to create space, but always need to keep the shape of an upside down triangle.

Info to put on the 6:

Ask him where he thinks he should be when a CB is stepping in?

If the CF is dropping onto him, where can he go to create space.
