Warm-Up Techincal (120 mins)

Organization:

  • 3 players - top of the box 
  • wingers/OB combine on the side for a cross 

Instructions:

  • wingers/OB combine to cross into the box
  • runners make sure we cover the near post, back post, and middle area in front of pk spot 

Coaching Points:

  • wingers/OB accuracy in passing
  • pass with depth rather than width so that winger can time run, look up, and pick a player in the box 
  • weight of pass 
  • runners: timing of runs , type of finish

Exercise 1 - Added Pressure (15 mins)

Organization:

  • same as previous but add defenders on the wing, and one in the middle 

Instructions:

    • opponent and winger pass back and forth. Once winger wants to attack he must turn and combine with player in front before he can cross, opponents must try to defend as soon as the winger makes his move to go forward
    • wingers/OB combine to cross into the box
    • runners make sure we cover the near post, back post, and middle area in front of pk spot

Organization:

  • 5v5 + 4 N

Instructions:

  • Team with the ball must put 5 passes together before they can play it out wide to Neutral players
  • defending team can only defend with 2 players in opponent's half, and 2 defenders in their half when the cross is coming in 
  • attacking team can send all of their players to the opponent's half to score 

Coaching Points:

  • connect quickly by providing passing lanes 
  • pass ball out wide and immediately send numbers forward to score 
  • cover target areas with runs 
  • type of finish
