Character Development:

Being a Good Teammate:

Definition: Being a good teammate means working together with others to reach a common goal. It’s about helping, sharing, listening, and being kind. A good teammate encourages others, respects their ideas, and does their part to make sure the team succeeds. It's also okay to ask for help when you need it, and to help others when they do!

Practice 1: What is Being a Good Teammate? Why is it important?

Practice 2: How do you show Being a Good Teammate in soccer?

Practice 3: Can Being a Good Teammate be used at home or school? How?

Practice 4: How can we motivate each other to show Being a Good Teammate?

Technical:

- Every player has a ball.

- Scatter more cones than players in your half of the field

- Players will dribble their ball around and execute cuts at the cones or when they approach another player

- Practice variation in open space and then make it competitive for number of quality touches

Reps: After practicing, multiple 30 second rounds to count cuts

Variations (progress as able):

- Pull Back (both feet)

- Inside Cut (both feet)

- Outside Cut (both feet)

- Cruyff (both feet)

- 2 x 5 Yard Gates 12 yards apart. In the middle set up 2 cones 8 yards apart.

- 1 player will start the game by playing the ball to their opponent. The opponent will try to dribble through either gate as quick as possible

- If the defender wins the ball they can dribble through either gate to score

- Alternate Service

Reps:

- 90 second games

- Winner moves up, loser moves down

Introducing the Game:

- We are working on changing direction on the dribble

- 2 point for goal scored off of changing direction

- 1 point for any other goal

First Stoppage (5 minutes in):

- Ask: How do we protect the ball when dribbling and cutting? Keep body between ball and opponent

- CP: Body between ball and opponent

Second Stoppage (12 minutes in):

- Ask: What can make your cut/change of direction more effective? Change of speed out of the move

- CP:  Change direction & speed to get past defender

Third Stoppage (18 minutes in):

- Reminder of the 2 CP's for the topic

End of Drill Before Final Play:

- Remember we are changing direction on the dribble

- If you hear me say "find new space", try to change direction to find new space
