Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Passing Triangles w. Combo

Main Activity (20 mins)

Organization:

- 30x20 yd area.

- Triangles spread within area.

- Players in pairs.

- 1 ball per pair.

- 2 defenders without a ball.

- 10x10 small area on the outside.

Instructions:

1. Players start inside small area on the outside of field.

2. On coach's command, players must race into bigger area with partner and attempt to pass into as many triangles as they can.

3. Pairs gain points by one partner passing the ball into the triangle and other partner taking a touch outside of it without the defender taking it away.

*Defenders can only take the ball away after the receiving player's first touch leaves the triangle. I.e. Once receiving player establishes control with their second touch, the defender must find a different pair to try to disrupt.

**Once Defenders take the ball, they must look to play towards goal, and score.

5. Play for a set time period, rotating players.

Round Rules:

1. No extra rules, just play.

2. Use right foot to score, then use left foot to score.

3. 3 touch max.

4. To score players must use a first time pass through the gate.

5. Mix #'s 3 and 4.

Coaching Points:

- Check shoulder before receiving.

- Take touch away from defender.

- Use of surface depending on direction of touch.

- Use of surface for deception.

Progression

Progression:

- Same as Main Activity except defenders can take the ball away at any time.
