Individual Skills: 5 v 2 Rondo

Game Objective: to make precise passes to the correct foot

Topic: Establish Possession and Connect Out of Pressure

Phase: Transition from Defending to Attacking

Problem: Just recoved the ball in a tight space

Who: anyone

Where: anywhere

When: Recovering the ball

What: (1) Open hips (2) Scan the field (3) Connect away from pressure

Why: become really good at precision passing and receiving

Layout: 15 x 15

Restrictions: 5v2 or 4v2; if 4v2 keep center player; 10:1:30 seconds; Rotate defedenders every minute.

Scoring: Blue: one point per recovery; Red: 1 point to connect out from center and 1 point for four consecutive passes .

Game: Rondo game

Coaching Points: Emphasize visual cues: (a) open their hips. (b) those without the ball scan the field so that you know who to connect the ball to. Emphasize technical: (a) Precision passes to the correct foot (b) two touches.

3 v 2 Rondo: Provide Cover (20 mins)

Objective of game: to activate the mind's eye in order to improve passing and receiving so they can play out of te back.

Topic: Create and Use Space

Phase: Attack - Build Up

Problem: We have to get the ball out of our defending third

Who: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Where: Defending third

When: a) the goalie retrieves the ball b) we gain possession

What:  ATTACKERS a) players quickly moves away from ball into open space with open hips. b) diagonal ball played to furthest foot. c)  Play through the CDM Repeat.  DEFENDERS: Pressure forces to one side. Cover cuts passing angle for through ball.

Why: ATTACK: To move the defense with ball movement  DEFEND: Prevent the advancement of the ball.

Layout: Start with 10x10 grid and progress once attackers connect 20 straight passes. Move to 8x8

Restrictions: 1 minute on 1 minute rest; 8 cycles; then 75 seconds on 1 minute rest. 8 cycles

Scoring: Number of connected passes per minute for first 8 cycles. Connect 10 passes get 5 points for second 8 cycles.

Coaching Points:

Cognitive: 1. Be alert, scanning constantly, as you are always in play. (perception)  2. Constantly think about where you need to be to create space and play the ball. (conception) 3. Make a decsion where to play the ball. 4. Devise a move to decieve the defender, if needed. 5. Play the ball (execution) 6. Assess

Technical: 1. Keep your hips open to the center to be able to play any option. (receiving) 2. Use both feet staying balanced on the balls of your feet. (ball control) 3. Make subtle changes in your positioning to create angles and keep passing lanes open. (positioning) 4. Pass to back foot. (passing) 5. Receive across your body. 6. Be courageous and look for the split pass when available. (ambition)
