Screen 1(specific practice) (10 mins)

Organisation/Area size

  • Area half pitch with the wide areas by the halfway line to the touch line tapered off.
  • 7v8- defending team have a GK
  • One big goal and two mini goals on the tapered lines
  • Red attacking team score in the big goal, defending team score in the two mini goals.
  • 10 min bloack (2x4 mins) (2mins rest/give information)
The session

  • The aim is for the red team to find different ways to attack the final 3rd. Either playing through the defending team or creating and overload out wide using overlaps and underlaps to get crosses into the box.
  • The ball always starts on the halfway line with the server, playing the ball into one of the attacking teams centre midfielders.
  • The red team (coached by me) aim is to try and score in the big goal. They can do this by creating an overload in midfield making a 3v2 or by creating 2v1s out wide and getting crosses into the box.
  • If the defending team win the ball they try and score in the two mini goals. The red team react to prevent them from scoring.
Key points for the attacking team (coached)

  • Move the ball quickly but be patient with it.
  • Try and create an overload in midfield making a 3v2
  • Create 2v1 out wide and get crosses into the box
  • Opposite wide man get in the back post when a cross from the other side is coming in
  • One midfielder try and make the box, be on for cutbacks.
  • Striker stay high to make the pitch big and wingers stay high and wide to strech the defence.
  • Shots (score goals)
  • Reaction when you lose the ball.
  • Take risks around the box
Key points for the defending team

  • Stay narrow and compact, force out wide
  • No gaps so the attacking team can play through you
  • Stop shots and crosses
  • Defend the cross and track runners
  • Score in the mini goal when you win it.

Conditions

  • Ball always starts with the server on the halfway line.
  • Attacking team score in the big goal
  • Defending team score in the two mini goals.
