Aim: Develop players control and touch when running with the ball.

Aim: To develop players technique and skill whilst running with the ball without pressure.
Drill: Players are split into four team with each team being given a number 1-4. When the players team number is called out the run with the ball across the grid, turn and run back. More than one number can be called to make it more congested in the middle which encourages players to keep closer control. If players comfortable then exercise will be turned into a competition.
Key Points: Push the ball out in front, work on getting the control.
Players should have their head up to avoid any collisions.

Aim: To improve player’s confidence when running with the ball.
Drill: Players need to make it from one box (safe zone) to the next without being tackled. The two taggers (sharks) in the middle try to tackle the players. The player that gets tackled the least is the winner.
Key Points: Focus on keeping the ball under control. If the player takes a touch that is to big it will increase their chance of losing the ball. If the player keeps the ball to close they will run to slow and won’t make it to the next safe zone (island).
Get players to push the ball out in front of them with their laces.

Aim: To apply the skills developed in the session under an increased amount of pressure.
Drill: Players are split into four even teams and then split into two games. Players then play games against each other with the coach maintaining the focus of the session.
Key Point: Players are encouraged to take on players where they can.
Decision making is brought into the drill when players need to decide whether to pass or run with the ball.
Players are encouraged to communicate with team mates to improve decision making.

Ball Mastery
Aim: Improve player’s ability to manipulate the movement of a ball.
Drill: Each player has a ball inside the square. Player’s begin by dribbling around the grid using different parts of both of their feet. The coach can change to the conditions e.g. only right foot, or only inside of foot.
Key Points: Focus on correct technique before speed. Work on getting the movements correct at walking speed before increasing to a jog.
Encourage players to get as many touches on the ball as they can.
The aim of this activity is to make players comfortable on the ball so that they feel confident in any situation.
