Organization:
- 4 grids as shown above, 10x10 yds each grid
- Six players per area
- Two players on either side of middle line
Instructions:
- Two middle players pass the ball between themselves holding for 3 seconds
Coaching Points:
- Movement as ball travels
- Covering player in position to block penetrating line
- Communication between players
- Pressuring player keeping pressure on if middle player decides to dribble
Progressions:
- Middle players can decide to dribble the ball across

Organization:
- Same as previous.
Instructions:
- Same as previous, but now middle players are allowed to try penetrate through the gates.
- If attackers score, they switch with defenders
Coaching Points:
- Quick transition between roles, switching between pressure and cover

- 2v2's in each half
Instructions:
- Players stay in their own half and play 2v2 to the goal
Coaching Points:
- Starting positions to deny penetration
- Moments to pressure ball
- Win ball if not preventing the turn
- Position and communication of covering player
Progressions:
- Free play 4v4 or 5v5

Organization:
- 40x35 yd field
- 5v5 or 6v6
Instructions:
- Start with blue team only being able to win the ball by intercepting a pass, not taking it away on the dribble
- Blue team can score normally and white team can defend normally
- Switch roles of team defending
Progressions:
- Progress to team defending can only win ball by making a tackle and taking ball away from attacking team on the dribble, cannot intercept a pass
- Free play no restrictions
Coaching Points:
- When defending team cannot win the ball off the dribble, try to slide and cover each other and make pass predictable so they can intercept pass
- When defending team can only win ball on tackle, have initial defender press hard and try to make a tackle on dribbling player, if ball is passed to another attacking player, have them slide and cover one another
- Communication from everyone on the field to help in the defending
- Body shape when sliding and covering
- Cues to pressing when defending the dribbler

Technical Warm Up (10 mins)
Organization:
- 10x20 yards
- 2 teams
Instructions:
- 1st player in line is active defender
- 2nd player in line is active attacker
- Attacking player dribbles in a diagonal line from cone to cone
- Defending player shadows the attacker by sliding from cone to cone
- Once attacking player gets to the end line, he then sprints to the beginning of the line and becomes the next defensive player
- Defending player returns to the back of the line
Progressions:
- Players press nearest ball and hold defensive position until covering defender directs the pressing player to press next ball
- 2nd defender gives specific instructions to 1st defender, "show inside" or "show outside"
- Allow second defender to decide upon command
Coaching Points:
- Angle, speed and distance of approach
- Deny space and penetration
- Provide clear and specific instructions from 2nd defender to 1st defender
- Open body stance when showing player inside
- Closed body stance when showing player on the outside
