Description

Defending 1v1 (or matched numbers).

Key points:

- Defender remains dynamic and keeps feet moving.

- Defender aiming to dictate what the attacker does (and not vice versa). Do this by using body position and stick to show which side you want them to go.

- Use different tackle techniques such as jab or block.

- Stay in the contest as long as possible (don't over commit and dive in to the tackle)

- Ultimate aim is to delay the attacker.

Attacker key points:

- Be dynamic

- Change of speed, direction and elimination skills

- Aim to keep body facing the defender, avoid turning your back

Put a time restraint on this and reward points for each success. Ensure players change up who they attack and defend against so they can be challenged.

1v1 to cone

Orange Player working to dribble the ball to each cone.

Blue Player working to defend each cone.

If the Orange player succeeds in getting the ball to the cone, they can turn and go towards the other cone.

If Blue player wins the ball, they attack the opposite cone, and orange defends.

1v1 to point gates

1v1 in a box with cones on end line to indicate points.

1 player attacks, and continues to attack until they are dispossessed (ie lose the ball/tackled).

Play for 2 minutes, and the individual with the most points wins that round. With multiple players/boxes set up, if they win, the player moves to the right, and loser to the left so both players end up playing against someone different.

Each cone gate represents points. Getting to gates 1 on each end will be the easiest as they are the opponents non-stick side. Gates 5 are more points as they are defenders stick side.

Feel free to change the points - if you are wanting players to target left foot more, then put the 5 point gate on the other side to reward that success.

This can also be done as a 2v2 or 3v3 if desired.
