Description

What: ball control and physical literacy, Running with the ball, Dribbling.

Who: 1st attacker.

How: working on Agility, Balance and Coordination with and without the ball.

Where: Everywhere on the pitch.

When: in open space, near the field limits, and in small spaces.

Why: to introduce players to care for the ball and find creative answers to the changing question of space, what play is in a soccer context

Mario Tag (10 mins)

Organization:

Instructions:

Bowser (Coach) is wrecking all the toilets (players)
Super Mario (2-3 selected players) is a plumber
If you get tagged by Bowser - you become a broken toilet
In order to be freed, Super Mario must flush the toilet

Coaching Points:

Head up

Developments:

P - Yoshi when caught - balance on one leg and yell YOSHI
P - Have every player with a soccer ball

Power-up challenge (15 mins)

Organization:

30x20-yard area
All players with a soccer ball

Story/Description:

Mario has all sorts with different powerups- (Lucky bell) super hearing, (frog suit) smell,(fire flower) fire ball with hands, (mushroom) strength of biceps, (cat suit) super-fast feet, (Boomerang plant) elastic legs, (propeller hat) hold ball with head.
While dribbling, Captain Toadstool will yell out a body part/powerup, players must put that part of the body on the ball
Bonus Points for sound effects

Coaching Points:

Don't bump into another toad
Small touches like Mini-Mario

Developments:

P - let players come up with new superheroes/body parts

Clean Up Donkey Kongs Bedroom (20 mins)

Equipment scattered throughout field

Instructions:

Donkey Kong (DK) is out with his friends
The Kongs are cleaning his bedroom
Dk doesn't like a clean bedroom
When he comes back, he'll try and turn all the cones over and kick the balls away
Its the Kongs job to keep cleaning whilst avoiding DK

Close control
Small touches
Eyes up
Balance and coordination to change direction

Mushroom Kingdom (20 mins)

Every player with a ball

Instructions:

Bowser (coach) has come looking for Princess Peach (players)
Once caught, princess peach turns into a Koopa Troopa and helps Bowser.
Princess Peach is only safe inside the castles
Players cannot stay in the castle longer than 5 seconds, or if another player enters the castle.
Last Peach standing becomes the next bowser.

Coaching Points:

Must balance on one foot to be safe in the castle
Look around before exiting the castle

Developments:

P – Coach makes more complicated coordination tasks

P- add more taggers

P- remove castles.

1 ball per player - in hands

Story/Description:

Wario in the middle
Mario Kart racers on the end lines (pick a character)
Both hands out like you're driving
Pinnies as bananas

Change in speed

Developments:

P - Wario has a red shell - has to hit you with it (ball)
P - Mario Kart drivers have a green shell in front (ball) Wario must hit their ball to knock them out
