Welcome Game (15 mins)

Organization

25yd x 40yd Field

4 v 4 on the Field

Activity

4v4 small sided four goal game; each team attacks & defends two goals

Encourage possession, dribbling skills and shooting as a window presents itself or is created

Coach field space; can you find it? Use the entire width of the field; what do you see?

Coaches Emphasis

Half a yard to finish; Shooters Window

Encourage defenders to close down quickly and stop the attack; can we control the ball?

Kicking the ball down the field or off the field should be avoided; can we start a new attack?

Creating space to shoot via acceleration and clean touches; can you find the goal?

Activity (15 mins)

Organization

2 or 3 groups of players

2 or 3 Goals

Players start 12 yards from goal

Activity

Players start behind the cone with the sole of their foot on the ball, under control.

When they are ready, roll the ball forward and attack the cone at pace

Encourage a faint move or step over to change direction and separation / accelerate

Head up and see the goal; are you under control with the ball close?

Finish with both feet; coach clean striking techniques on goal; no toe balls!

Progression

Place a few cones 6 yards from the goal and encourge shooting from distance...power / accuracy

Coaches Emphasis

Set up a good skill move / faint at the cone; change of direction

Accelerate past the cone; create separation & drive towards goal

Accurate finish on goal and progess with distance

Good ball striking technique; no TOE BALLS

Reward control, pace and accuracy...power will come with repetition
