10 minute passing combination warm up.
Organization:
Two 20 x 20 diamonds. 10+ on each.
Goals:
Players look to pass ball around the diamond using passing movements. Defenders press the wide cones; here the attackers can use link up play to beat defender - or allow ball to role across and open out - depending on the pass.
Defenders try and intercept the pass, the trigger for movement is the first touch on the end cones by an attacker.
Coaching Points:
Basics: Check shoulder, create space, receive on the back foot.
Play dependent: How is the defender affecting my actions? Are they tight and do I have to bounce pass back, or can I turn out?
Quality of pass is vital.
Progressions:
Defenders apply more pressure. Win the ball from the wide player.
Remove a ball and play multi-direction.
Play both diamonds, can the ball be transferred from one end to the other (with appropriate defending numbers).

15-20 minutes
Allow attacking freedom:
Ball in from midfield, two wide players advance and work with two strikers against three defenders. Defenders need to organise against the overload.
Progressions include involving a holding midfielder to try and cut off the initial pass and provide cover when needed.
Attacking coaching:
Are players checking shoulders? Creating space to receive the ball or breaking beyond the defensive line? Are wide players providing suitable width to the attack/attacking as a third striker if the ball is on the other side of the pitch?
Defensive coaching:
Is the nearest player pressing the ball? Can the others provide support.
When CDM is introduced, are they screening the initial pass? If the ball goes to wide player and a DC moves out to press, are they covering properly? Moving into the DC position.
