The Session
General session where each team will have the opportunity to try and break lines so all players will gain a better understanding of this principle. The in possession team will try to play through or around the opposition, while using the target players placed at each end to score.
Organisation
15 Players will be organised into three teams. 5v5 for blues
and Burgandy, with 5 players in orange.
The blue team will begin in possession and play to an outside orange to score. The Burgundy team will aim to regain possession and play to a orange target players on the outside to score and
maintain possession. (transitions)
Area Size
The area size will be 25m in length and 25m wide. This can be adaptable based on the age and ability of the players.
Timings
10 minutes split into 3x2 minute blocks, allowing 2 minutes break.
Explanation
A Orange target player will pass the ball into the blue team who will aim to play through or around the Burgundy team. If the blue team can find ways to play through the Burgundy team they score three goals. If they have to play around the Burgundy team they score one goal. You can flip this so the team in possession gain more points when it becomes harder for them to break a line. The white team do the same if they are in possession.
Progressions (Harder)
1. Limit the team in possession on the number of touches they can take or a time limit.
Regressions (Easier)
1. team out of possession can win the ball off the outside oranges.
Key Points: IN Possession
Try to play through or around the opposition - individual +1 - moving in and out of space to open up the pitch ti allow players to step or pass the ball forwards.
Make the pitch big (Width and Depth) Tactical
Use limited touches and move the ball quickly - tactical/technical
Out of possession;Look to play forward where possible - tactical
nothing changes...
key points:
making the pitch small - individual +1 - talk about 'round polls into round holes" getting player for player closest and making the pitch small as possible by closing down the team in possessions as 1 unit.
applying pressure on the ball - tactical
winning the ball back as quick as possible - tactical.
