TRAINING SESSION: OBJECTIVE: To create chances and score goals in the attacking half by breaking lines in the midfield in order to find a player in a position to score or assist.
Desired Behaviors:
Main Principle 1: Finish the Attack
Sub-Principle 1: Find the player in a position to score or assist
Main Principle 2: Break Lines to Advance the Attack
The player on the ball decides to progress forward by driving at an opponent, using body feints and/or change of speed to dribble past (eliminate) them.
The player on the ball scans for a teammate supporting in open space and executes an accurate pass with appropriate pace to this free player.
Player Action 1: Driving - Running as fast as possible with the ball, picking up speed to gain as much time and territory as possible
Player Action 2: Passing - Make the pass with the right ball speed and at the right time so that you can continue playing in favorable conditions
Player Action 3: Supporting - Assessing teammates’ movements and moving off each other

2. WHAT: Passing to find a player to score or assist
WHEN: Break
HOW: Once you have time and space, how do you know whether to play a forward's feet or a through ball? (based on the defender's positioning. If defender is wide, play through. If defender is tucked in, play feet).
