Final Third (20 mins)

Starting the Attack

Working in 4 4-minute blocks with a minute rest in between each block.

Set up a 10yrd x 10yrd box 8 yards away from the penalty area. Then place a cone on each wing where the wingers will be to start the drill. In the square, there will be four players on the outside and one attacker in the middle. On each wide cone needs to be an attacker and then two centre midfielders on the side of the square furthest away from the 18-yard box. The back 4 (players around the box) will pass it around the box and the player in the middle tries to win the ball off them. Once the attacker in the middle wins the ball he then plays it to one of the centre midfielders to start an attack. The 4 blues (defenders who were passing the ball in the box) will drop back and become a back 4 to defend the attack. Once the defending team wins the ball or the ball goes out of play everyone gets back into position. If the attacker in the box is unable to give it to a centre midfielder he can pass it to one of the wingers to attack. The back 4 must get back into position quickly to defend the attack and not concede.

The spare players will be in a rondo on the side and after 5 minutes they will swap with some of the players that took part in the drill first.

Block 1: Freeplay once the ball is won by the attackers.

Block 2: Focus on the attacker in the square trying to play the ball to the wingers to start the attack.

Block 3: Focus on the ball being recycled to the deeper players so they are able to play a through ball into the wingers.

Block 4: Give the attackers an extra point if they manage to score from a ball played in by one of the wingers.

Progression

Add an extra defender to make it 5v5.

Regression

Take a defender away so it becomes a 5v3 in favour of the attackers.
