During playing through the middle, the central players will be asked to split either side of the pitch and to create a space through the middle for the GK or central defenders to play through. Once the pass is made, the midfield can either play through to the final third or play out wide. The wide unchallenged players will then look to play back through the middle for then the ball to be played through to the centre forwards in the final third. The midfield players will be asked to keep on their toes looking to make a run in to the space created and on to the ball in the middle.

During the first part of the small-sided game, the players will be given 2 points if they score with the ball coming into the highlighted zone in the middle via a pass and straight out into the middle of the final third, 2 points if they score with the ball just going into the channels or 3 points if the ball has been moved into both areas whilst attacking. The channels now become opposed which means players can enter the wide channels and come out of them. Push the players to keep the ball on the floor rather kick it straight over the top.

The final part of the SSG will be Freeplay to then see if the players have taken on board what they have been working on throughout the session. If players are struggling to do what has been worked on will then add the extra points as in P1 to force them to try do what they have worked on throughout the session.

Wide Play Spec (5 mins)
During the wide play to get the ball into the final third, the coached central players will be asked to make an opening to one side of the pitch by moving together. Taking their markers with them and creating the space needed for the GK or defender to make the pass out wide. Once the wide player has the ball, they can then run the line unchallenged and produce the cross into the final third for the strikers to finish. Forward players will be asked to keep on their toes, giving themselves as much space as possible from the defending players and as much time to get to make the finish.
