Positional Rondo (30 mins)

Playing out the back - position based rondo

Focus Players

Primary - 5/6/8/4

Secondary - 10/1

Tertiary - 2/3

How to Play

3v2 in two areas with 2 wide attackers/fullbacks

Play starts from goal kicks

Blues look to penetrate the half spaces or hit their 10 in advanced area

If they hit the 10 the option for a pass back to midfielder to run through gates becomes available

Aims of this practice:

Understanding of requirements of the two areas within playing out scenarios

Coaching Points:

Body shape to receive, quality of pass, drawing players out to penetrate, angle of receiver

Penetration into midfield zone within the 4-2-3-1 formation

two cm's drop to allow space in behind for 10 or cm's high for cb's to step out

How using the in/out method can advance, creating passing channels from movement

Open position when possible, if the movement to open and out and beat defender isn't on play on front foot first time

Can we recognise when to go back and switch and change point of attack

Can we split cb's and cm's and create a channel for 10
