  • 2) Outside servers circulate ball with feet, looking to knock over cones in centre
  • 3) Each GK goes for ~45s before rotating

Handling Activation - Smother w around/thru (5 mins)

Objective - Prepare smother action & acceleration, while working handling, short distro and mental focus

  • Setup - 4 balls - one being circulated, one in coaches hands, and one behind each server (stationary)
  • 1) Working GK and 3 servers (incl. coach) circulate ball in a small diamond
  • 2) Coach (at point of diamond) will volley to working GK every time he releases ball
  • 3) If coach kills the circulating ball and steps out, it is the cue for all keepers accel forward and smother their ball
Coaching Points
  • Good handling habits
  • Passing technique - toe up, chest over ball, ankle locked
  • Quick accel, get low and attack ball with hands
  • MUST call keeper on every smother

1v1 Activation - Mid 1v1 w/short distro, angled strike (5 mins)

Objective - Prepare block/spread actions while incorporating decisions on when/how to close space

  • Setup - 3 servers (1 coach), 2 working keepers. 2nd working keeper waits by post until angled strike
  • 1) GK receives from S1 and plays to S2 after prep touch
  • 2) S2 plays short square ball to coach for 1v1 scenario (vary touch to encourage a variety of techniques/decisions)
  • 3) Once 1v1 is dealt with, the resting GK comes in and faces and angled strike. Repeat 3 times each before rotating
Coaching Points
  • Decisions around controlling space - read the touch. Accel for smother? Or small steps to close space
  • Low but narrower set, hands lower and wider.
  • Small steps, always able to snap into block/spread/smother
  • Look to gain ground when striker looks down

  • 1) GK faces angled strike from S1
  • 2) S1 throws square to S2, GK then faces reaction save from S2
