Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Angles and Moving Across Goal

Scripted Start 3v2 plus GK

Session Organization:

• play area extends 5 yards outside of 18 yard box and to the top of the 18 yard box
• Ball starts on top of box. cone in front of attacker to represent defender 
• Attacker picks which direction to pass to into the assist zone
• defenders start on 6 yard box and move when ball is played
• play is open after start
• When defenders win it, they try to get ball past 18 yard box by dribbling or passing
• add Tuchel lines (that line of cones that cut the corners of the field)  to encourage players to attack the goal

You can scale this back to being unopposed. If you do this unopposed, i recommend a touch and distance limit for the wide players, unless you want to add 1v1s into the activity. If you do not have 6 keepers you can cut it to a 2v1, etc.

Technical Points:

• When to take ground vs when to give ground to give more time to react
• communicate with defenders
• stay on the ball line
• Keep a good depth off of your line

Keywords:

• drop step - Using your first step to open up to the field if you are facing sideways. This helps us face the play.
• ball line - The imaginary line drawn from the center of the goal to the ball
• assist zone
