Defending Lateral Movement Races
Organization:
- Two players facing each other
- Coach calls out colors of 3 central cones for players to move to laterally
- When coach calls color of wide cones it is a race through that cone
- Duration for each set of players should only be 5-15 secs as this reflects game demands, can be adjusted for fitness levels
Coaching Points:
* Staying low, quick shuffling
* Turning and clearing hips to transition to sprinting
Adjustments:
- Move cones in middle to provide vertical movement with lateral movement

Organization:
- Yellows = Defenders, Reds/Coach = Attackers
- Triangle cone setup
- Coach plus two attacking player options
- Defenders come in as sets of 2 working on pressure, cover, and cutting out passing lanes and splits
- Ball is played out by Red player to coach, defenders close down coach with the ball who tries to complete a pass to either red, or split the two defenders
- 2 pushups for defenders if a pass is completed to either Red, 10 pushups for defenders if a split is played and completed
- Swap out the 2 Reds every couple mins
Coaching Points:
*Take away passing lanes and the line
*Covering Defender - has to cut out split and take away the line pass
*Read passer and anticipate angle of pass
*Bent run by pressuring defender to take away wide passing lane, but not too wide to open up split

Organization:
- 25x35 field with a "sweeper keeper" for each team
- Ball is played out by coach and 2 players from each team enter to play
- Before scoring team must play back to their "sweeper keeper," must do this after regaining any possession
- deepest player should support play and advance up field when their team is in possesion to create a 3v2
- Can use field players as keepers
- score by dribbling the endline
Coaching Points:
*When ball goes back to keeper players should stretch wide and come back to create angle
*If defenders stretch wide, slashing/penetrating runs should be made
*Be patient in possession
*Try to create splits to penetrate
*Dribble to commit defender
