Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Decision making Final third

Decision Making Final Third (35 mins)

Organisation

- 3v3 with a 2v1 on each end of the pitch

- Two neutrals who play in the wide channels to support possession, maximum of two touches allowed

- Aim to score a goal by breaking the defensive line

- Neutral may cross the ball if they receive the ball past the defensive line

Session management

- Defenders to not drop deeper then the blue defensive line (encourages to find the ball in behind when possible)

- Defending CM's to screen the ball into the striker rather than pressing opposite CM

- Swapping neutrals every 5-10 mins

- Half time where Goalkeeper will swap ends

Coaching points

1. Circulate possession

- Create space (10 to work behind midfield predominatly)

- Two CM's to work on two different lines but not to bypass the opposition's midfield (they may go when the ball enters the final third)

- CB's to split create some distance between them and the opposition striker

2. Ball in behind

- CF to work away from the line of the ball if he wants to play in behind, positioned just off the second CB, curve run and timing when ball carrier is about to play

- 10 to come in line to offer opportunity to play in between lines

3. Into feet

- CF to come in line with the ball and the 10 to work on a opposite line ready for the set

- Pin and spin if there is space between the two CB's

- Set and peel off to make a run in the blind spot of the CB (position between FB and CB)

- If there is no space to play through, play around the 2 CBs to the neutral to run on too.
