Progression example
-Once Red receives ball from keeper they play yellow player and offer support inside
-Ball out to yellow player is central red players trigger to run across back line to offer 1, 2 between blue defenders or continue make underlapping run themselves
-Attacking teams aim is to freeze full back through multiple attacking options
-Once pass is played, yellow player starts run into box for cut back option
-Far side red player must now move to occupy central channel that was left
Reasons for session layout
-Last session of day, want to incorporate goals to increase group motivation
-Short bursts of work to allow rest between bouts of action
-Medium physical & mechanical load to ensure proposed practice intensity is attainable

Overloads in wide channels
Match day -1/2
Physical loading- 200m2 per player
-Medium range mechanical loading through accelerations and speed work
-Low amounts of decelerations and high speed running
Session objectives
Technical: Execute correct weight of pass for overlapping/underlapping runners
Tactical: Create goal scoring opportunities in wide/interior channels from different forms of overloads (overlaps/underlaps)
Psychological: Produce multiple attacking outcomes to inhibit defender's decision making process
Set up
30x60 field
5 channels
1 big goal
2 target goals
Organisation
3+1/2 v 5+1/4 (1 yellow player joins IP team in attack, 1 yellow player joins OP team in transition to attack)
IP team (Red)- Attack Big goal
OP team (Blue)-Defend central area, target goals for transition
4x3 minute blocks- 2 minute interventions between, progress/regressRed's & Blues occupy 3 central channels, yellows on the perimeter of interior and wide channel
Details/Explanation
IP Reds
-Keeper starts, distributes to Red team, game is live off receiving red players first touch
-Reds utilise one yellow player to create overload in same channel or neighbouring channels
-Yellow players stay on their line until ball reaches them, receiving yellow player is free to move anywhere off first touch
OP Blues
-Stay compact to protect central area
-Apply pressure and cover when applicable (triggers to step)
-When ball is won, 5 seconds to transition to attack using target goals or driving through central channel themselves
-Yellow player that was not used to overload for reds can assist blues in transition to attack
Scoring
-'Goal scoring opportunity' is produced with assistance of overlapping/underlapping run: 1 goal
-Goal scored from overlap/underlap with assistance of overlapping/underlapping run: 3 goals
Progressions
-Confine game:3 central channels
-Blues may challenge first ball from keeper to increase Red players speed of decision to create overload & exploit space if and when they win the ball
-Reds can only score from inside the box
-Move target goals to wide channels so reds have more space to cover in transition to defence
Regressions
-Opposite yellow player may join attacking team once other yellow player receives ball and does not transition to attack with blues
-Yellow players move out to edge of wide channel (Yellow that isn't utilised in attack can move back to interior channel in anticipation for blue transition)
-Blues move to a back 3 with one target player in between red central gate to allow Reds more opportunity to overload against back line (To progress again this player may press from behind in central areas)
Challenges
-When we play across the line can we break a line on our next pass? Reward 1 goal if successfully received
-Can we score from inside box? 3 goals (Become constraint if they keep shooting from outside box)
Key coaching points
-Commitment to overload with supporting runs
-Triggers to initiate overload: ball travels to yellows feet, offer supporting runs to give them multiple options
-Overlap when team mate takes touch inside towards opposing defender, creating room for supporting player
-Underlap when team mate takes first touch at their feet, purposely delaying play and drawing defender out
-Fluidity in roles, when possible can attacking team occupy 3-4 channels through positional rotations
