Method:
- 2v2+1 (Inc GKs)
- Transition to defend from 3 into 2, as the neutral player joins the attack when they gain possession.
- Works in waves, rotating 2s and also rotate the neutral player.
- 2 Touches
Objective:
Defending when overloaded, working as a unit remaining compact in the defending zone forcing play wide, Try delay and press when triggers are hit then counter (T2A) & finish in opposite goal, neutral player joins the T2A.
Coaching Points:
- Force play away from goal when defending
- Work on communication when defending and organise (Inc GK)
- Awareness of danger and priority of defending the goal
Questions:
- What information can we send to help a team mate?
- How do we stop them from playing through us?
- What helps us be aware when defending?
Progressions:
- Change numbers of practice depending on players
- Time frame before they can attempt to score (maintain possession for time period)
- Include channels, encourage movement into these areas (3rd man runs)
- Ladders or some type of activity when concede a goal
- Conditions (Limited Touches, Scoring Zones with 1 touch finish)

Method:
- 2v1 in MF with challenge to get ball into Att3 players who are matched up with 3 defenders (From a back 3)
- Wide players act as floating players for both groups, initially involved on counter attack. Progress to include wide players to overload normal attack.
- Transition to Attack with wide players, scoring into small goals
Objective:
Is for the defending 3 to remain compact and limit space behind
- P1 is for wide players to join in the attack and create a 5v3 overload
- P2 Allow the one centre midfielder (Blue) recover to support the Def3
- P3 Allows our opposite wide player become a full back (Tuck in with back 4) (If play is on left then right full back tucks in)
Encoring defenders to just slide across.
Coaching Points:
- Work on communication when defending and organise (Inc GK)
- Sliding across and passing attackers to team mates
- Applying pressure to not allow them turn and try force play wide or back
- Awareness of danger and priority of defending the goal
Questions:
- What information can we send to help a team mate?
- How do we stop them from playing through us?
- What helps us be aware when defending?
